The largest displays of compassion came during the first hectic week, when hundreds were huddled in the rain to await their turn. Umbrellas, soup, pizza, chocolate, coffee, bagels, dry socks, you name it. Even after appointments replaced the lines, however, people still trickled into City Hall to offer gifts to gay couples from time to time. This one's my favorite: bottles of champagne for the newlyweds.
So how does this work? If I kiss another guy, does that mean that I get some free booze too?
